Process of applying for an Indian passport
If you are an Indian citizen living in India, it is mandatory to possess a passport and travel document. If you need to apply for a new passport or renew an existing one, the process is quite simple. The following steps will help you to understand the passport application process in India:
Visit the website of the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) in your city.
You must visit the PSK website based on your city of residence, as each PSK has different requirements for documentation. The PSK website provides a list of all the documents needed for applying for a new passport or renewing an old one. This website also hosts details of all the fees involved in applying for a passport.
The next step is to fill out an online form and make an online payment. To do this, log into your account on the PSK website, fill out the form and pay online through net banking or credit card. Once this process is completed, you will receive a system-generated acknowledgment number via SMS or email, which can be used to track your application status later on.
Once this has been done, log back into your account and choose “book appointment.” Here, you will be required to select a date and time slot as per the availability. Visit the PSK center and perform the necessary steps, including document verification, etc.
After that, police verification will happen. A police officer will visit your address within a few days, and your passport will be dispatched once you get a clear report.
